OUR DESIGN PROCESS

1.     DESIGN CONSULTATION

This is the first and most critical step in the IL-D creative process. The design consultation and client briefing stage is the starting point for achieving a beautiful and carefully tailored garden design.

This meeting allows for the gathering of site information critical to a successful design. Open communication is encouraged, and ideas are exchanged. We explore client aspirations, discuss existing site and architecture criteria, garden design styles, products, unique opportunities and project budget. This process allows for a truly bespoke garden design that meets the full requirements of the client brief.

Following this preliminary consultation, we prepare a Landscape Design Fee Proposal. This Proposal includes the project brief and scope. A fee is charged for the Design Consultation Stage.

2.     CONCEPT DESIGN

The concept design package communicates the proposed layout and mood of the proposed design as a response to the briefing stage. It includes finishes, material and planting palettes for the project with descriptive annotations used to express elements of the proposed outcome. Designs are extremely visual and schematic in presentation and clearly express the design outcome. Options for services such as 3D renderings and perspectives as well as lighting designs are offered at this stage.

On small, simple projects or for appointed Planting Designs only. This stage may be all that’s required. Heavily design influenced projects generally need further resolution in the Construction Documentation stage. The minimum fee for the Concept Design Stage is $3500.

3.     PROJECT BUDGET ESTIMATE

A project budget estimate is prepared to accompany the concept design package. This document is prepared by our estimator and proposes itemised costing budgets for all the proposed elements included in the concept design. This document gives an indication to the likely project installation costs and is prepared to allow the design to be carefully considered and resolved prior to moving into the next stage.

4. COUNCIL APPROVALS (DA/CDC)

On landscape design projects where council approval is required, a set of required council plans can be prepared once the Concept Plan has been resolved. An application is prepared with the relevant local council or private certifier in some cases depending the type of approval required. This includes Development Applications (DA) or a Complying Development Certificate (CDC). Our design team has experience preparing documentation for this process on difficult sites and for complex submissions. We manage this whole process and organise any requirements with the relevant sub-consultants such as engineers, certifiers, bush fire consultants, heritage consultants, arborists and town planners.

5. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

These plans are essential to provide clarity around the detail that is specific to the project so it can be constructed in a manner that supports the concept design intent. Detailed designs and construction documentation are critical to delivering a designer landscape product, these plans go into much greater detail to define the various elements included in the design. These plans are required to effectively and accurately allow the design to be built by our construction team, specialist contractors, and fabricators. These plans also inform the client of the precise finishing of the project so that they can make comment on and approve it prior to starting the project. This package is generally quite comprehensive and illustrates the detail in the construction finishing, sets the design out accurately for construction, resolves the final finishes specification, includes essential details such as drainage designs and detailed planting designs, they work out bespoke elements and provides working drawings for off-site specialists such as fabricators. This stage also handles elements such as swimming pools, outdoor kitchens, external building structures such as alfresco extensions, garages, pergolas and cabanas. These details are then provided to engineers and other associated consultants if required to calculate the structural requirements to achieve the design in accordance with this detail. Not until these plans have been developed can an accurate final construction quotation be finalised. The minimum fee for the Construction Documentation Stage is $3500.

6. FINAL CONSTRUCTION QUOTATION

Following the completion of the Construction Documentation stage and after receipt of the structural engineering specifications the Final Construction Quotation is prepared that is in accordance with these documents. Installation of the design follows this.

LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION

We pride ourselves on our dedication to provide complex and highly detailed landscape constructions that are delivered at the highest level of workmanship. Our construction teams are focused on achieving the upmost level of attention to detail, as this plays an integral role in the process of delivering exceptional landscapes that fulfil the requirements of the design from where they were born.

Our landscape designs are brought to life by our teams of highly skilled and experienced construction staff, which include our projects manager, pool builders, construction managers, landscape team leaders, qualified tradespeople and landscape apprentices. Both directors are actively involved in the evolution of each landscape project. As are our landscape architects and designers who through regularly visits manage the design intent and liaise with the construction staff of our build projects.

Delivering bespoke landscape construction is much more complex than standard landscaping and requires expert installers and tradespeople to carry out the work at the level required. Our exceptional in-house construction team along with our specialist contractors are dedicated to providing a level of craftsmanship that is hard to come by.

We understand the shortcomings that can be involved with engaging in construction and how invasive on people’s lives it can be. Our construction process includes careful management of project installation schedules. Friendly and accurate one-on-one communication with our clients that is applied regularly throughout the building process. This is all lead through our specialist Projects Manager that ensures that the process runs smoothly and efficiently to minimise the effect of construction on client’s lives.

Impressions Landscape – Design holds a full structural landscape licence and swimming pool builders’ licence. We are a member of the Landscape Contractors Association (LCA), and Swimming Pools and Spas Association (SPASA), and are covered by all the relevant insurance policies required for residential landscaping and pool construction.

POOL BUILDING & POOL DESIGN SERVICE

Often under-appreciated and typically simply a rectangle placed in the corner of the block somewhere. IL-D have a different philosophy for pool design and pool building. We see pool design as a critical landscape element. We understand the function, aesthetic value and enjoyment that it can bring to a property. A good pool design becomes the centre piece to any landscape project, a functional art installation of sorts for a residential home and garden.

Our view is that pools both need to be designed and built with the rest of the landscaping in mind and equally important is how its placed and shaped to ensure it is optimised for its enjoyment and activity by the people who will be using it.  We consider topography, orientation, visual delineation as well as access and movement both within and around its structure. We understand that pools don’t necessarily need to be confined to a general rule of thumb design, but rather just as each site is unique so is each swimming pool and so are the requirements of the people that use them. Our pool building service includes various types of concrete pools including in-ground pools, plunge pools, out of ground pools, negative edge or otherwise known as wet edge pools, pools with acrylic viewing windows, spa pools as well as above ground pools.

At IL-D we offer a complete and comprehensive swimming pool and spa service which includes either being part of a complex integrated landscape project or as simple one-off addition to a home.  IL-D build and design quality swimming pools and spas across Sydney and beyond ensuring relevant Australian Standards and statutory requirements are not only met but done so at the highest level of service. Our team consists of experienced and passionate pool designers, project managers and pool builders that ensure a beautiful lifestyle enhancing swimming pool installation that runs smoothly and is done so in a timely fashion.

Impressions Landscape – Design holds a full structural landscape licence and pool builders’ licence. We are a member of Swimming Pools and Spas Association (SPASA) and are covered by all the relevant insurance policies required for residential landscaping and pool construction.

HORTICULTURE

We love plants and gardens it’s no secret. We view Horticulture as a highly critical element to any successful landscaping or garden installation. Sometimes it is even the most important. Furthermore, the need to nurture and craft these living, expressive garden making elements is equally crucial.

At IL-D we take pleasure knowing our Horticulture team is made up of Sydney’s finest horticulturists. We treat Planting and Horticulture as its own entity within our landscape projects. Our Horticulture team is responsible for managing and carrying out our garden plant-out installations as part of our projects works. This is backed up by the same team who then manage and maintain the gardens in accordance with its vision from initial design concept and planned during installation. Our Horticulture team also works as a stand-alone department, working closely with its very own clients and on its own unique projects which includes work for; architects, landscape architects, landscape designers and builders.

We offer this service to new and established gardens. For new clients with established gardens an Onsite Consultation is the first step in the process. From here the exact requirements will be discussed so a tailor-made Horticulture Proposal can be developed.

At IL-D we are renown for our planting and ability to craft highly detailed beautiful planting schemes. The success of these are brought about through an unbelievable team who have extensive horticultural knowledge.
